People who know me will tell you how I feel about this fiasco of a deal when Brian Sabean brought Armando Benitez to the Giants organization. This is not a new rant, it has been going for well over 2 years. At the time the overweight “athlete” with the multi-million contract hurt him self by trotting to first base. How pathetic is this?
Even other sports figures like John McEnroe used his name in their speech induction to the hall to ridicule him and point out his well known blown saves. Why did the Giants even consider this joker?
A native New Yorker and Mets fan, McEnroe said, “I was homesick the other night. I turned on the TV. And it made me feel back in New York. More than ‘Seinfeld,’ more than ‘Friends,’ nothing says home to me more than watching (new Giants closer) Armando Benitez blow a save.”
The stage was set in New York, The Mets were so glad to get rid of Benitez in the past, when they saw him warm up in the bullpen they were licking their chops.
Benitez managed to butcher an outstanding game, after a game saving play in the 9th inning by Omar Vizquel, the giants went ahead in the 12th with a 4-3 score, a W to close the game. Benitez managed to walk the leadoff hitter, then balk twice, not once but TWICE. A Balk? walking the tying run with a balk? are you kidding? alas that’s how it was, walking the runner with a balk and then serving the game ending home run to Carlos Delgado.
I’ve always turned off the TV or the radio whenever I heard that Benitez is going to the mound. This game reinforces the fact that the Giants need to cut their losses and get rid of this incompetent player that is ruining the experience to the other 24 team members. A lousy balk! What a loser!
